Specialist therapy for adults

Connection Psychotherapy offers therapy for adults who want practical help with current difficulties as well as a deeper understanding of the patterns that keep repeating in their lives.

People often come to therapy because they feel anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, low, burnt out, self-critical, or caught in relationship patterns they do not fully understand. Some people know exactly what they want help with. Others simply know that the way they are coping is no longer working.

I work with adults experiencing difficulties including:

  • Anxiety and worry

  • Panic attacks

  • Trauma and post-traumatic stress

  • OCD and intrusive thoughts

  • Depression and low mood

  • Stress and burnout

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Low self-esteem and shame

  • Over-responsibility and people-pleasing

  • Emotional inhibition or feeling cut off from emotions

  • Difficult childhood experiences

  • Long-standing patterns that repeat in work, family or relationships

How therapy works

Therapy begins with an initial conversation about what has brought you here, what you are struggling with now, and what you would like to be different.

We then work together to understand both the immediate symptoms and the deeper patterns underneath them. For some people, therapy is focused and practical. For others, it becomes a longer piece of work exploring childhood experiences, attachment, trauma, emotional needs and relationship patterns.

My aim is not just to help you cope, but to help you understand yourself more clearly and begin making changes that last.

Therapy may include:

  • Understanding the cycle that keeps the problem going

  • Learning practical tools for anxiety, panic, mood or trauma symptoms

  • Exploring emotional patterns and unmet needs

  • Developing more helpful ways of responding to yourself and others

  • Processing difficult or traumatic memories where appropriate

  • Building confidence, boundaries and emotional resilience

My main therapy approaches

I draw on evidence-based and depth-informed approaches, including CBT, Schema Therapy and EMDR.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps you understand the links between thoughts, feelings, body sensations and behaviour. It is often useful for anxiety, panic, OCD, low mood, trauma symptoms and stress.

CBT is structured and practical. It can help you notice unhelpful patterns, test out new responses, and build tools you can continue using after therapy.

Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy is particularly useful for long-standing emotional and relationship patterns. These patterns often develop earlier in life and can continue even when, rationally, you know things should be different.

Schema Therapy helps you understand the different parts of you, the emotional needs that may not have been met, and the protective coping styles that may now be keeping you stuck.

EMDR

EMDR is a trauma-focused therapy that can help people process distressing memories and experiences that still feel emotionally active in the present.

It can be helpful for PTSD, trauma, difficult childhood experiences, phobias, panic, shame and other experiences where the nervous system still reacts as though the danger is happening now.
