Depression Therapy in Glasgow
A thoughtful approach to low mood, emotional flatness, and disconnection
Low mood can be hard to explain, especially when there’s no obvious reason for it. You might feel flat, unmotivated, or emotionally disconnected — going through the motions while something inside feels muted or heavy. Many people I work with are functioning on the outside, yet feel distant from themselves, from others, or from a sense of meaning.
I offer depression therapy from my practice in Shawlands, Glasgow, and online across Scotland.
How depression often shows up
Depression doesn’t always look like constant sadness. You may recognise some of the following:
-
Persistent low mood or emotional heaviness
-
Feeling numb, flat, or disconnected
-
Loss of interest or pleasure in things that once mattered
-
Fatigue or lack of motivation, even after rest
-
Harsh self-criticism or feelings of inadequacy
-
Withdrawing from others or feeling unseen
You don’t need a diagnosis to seek support. If life feels dull, heavy, or emotionally distant, therapy can help.
How I work with depression
I use an integrated, trauma-informed approach, shaped around you rather than a fixed model. Depending on what’s most helpful, our work may include:
-
CBT to understand patterns of low mood, self-criticism, and withdrawal
-
Schema Therapy to explore deeper emotional themes such as loss, shame, or unmet needs
-
EMDR where low mood is linked to past experiences that still carry emotional weight
We work at a pace that feels manageable. The aim isn’t to push you to “feel positive”, but to help restore emotional connection, energy, and a sense of direction over time.
Private therapy compared with NHS support
Some clients come to see me after NHS therapy, while others are waiting for support or want a different kind of space.
Working privately allows:
-
No waiting lists
-
Regular, consistent sessions
-
Flexibility in length and therapeutic approach
-
Time to explore underlying patterns, not just symptoms
There’s no pressure to improve quickly — the work is collaborative and respectful of your limits.
