Relationship Counselling in Glasgow (for Individuals)
A thoughtful space to explore patterns, boundaries, and emotional connection
Relationship counselling isn’t only for couples. Many people come to therapy on their own because something keeps repeating in their relationships — even when they’re thoughtful, self-aware, and trying hard to do things differently.
You might notice patterns such as over-giving, holding yourself back, feeling unseen, or becoming anxious about closeness or distance. Or you may be recovering from a difficult relationship and want to understand what happened, and how to move forward differently.
I offer relationship counselling for individuals from my practice in Shawlands, Glasgow, and online across Scotland.
How relationship difficulties often show up
Relationship concerns don’t always look dramatic. You may recognise some of the following:
-
Feeling responsible for other people’s emotions
-
Struggling to express needs or set boundaries
-
People-pleasing, over-adapting, or fear of conflict
-
Feeling distant, disconnected, or lonely in relationships
-
Anxiety about being too much, not enough, or getting it wrong
-
Repeating similar patterns with different partners
These patterns usually develop for good reasons. Therapy offers a space to understand them without blame — and to experiment with new ways of relating.
How I work with relationship counselling
I work with individuals using an integrated, trauma-informed approach, shaped around your experiences and relationships — past and present.
Depending on what’s most helpful, our work may include:
-
CBT to notice unhelpful relational patterns and responses
-
Schema Therapy to explore how early experiences shape expectations of closeness, safety, and care
-
EMDR where past relational experiences still carry emotional charge
The focus isn’t on fixing you or telling you how to behave, but on helping you feel more secure, clearer about your needs, and freer to relate in ways that feel right for you.
Private relationship counselling compared with NHS support
Some clients come to relationship counselling after NHS therapy, while others are looking for a space that allows deeper exploration of patterns and attachment.
Working privately allows:
-
No waiting lists
-
Regular, consistent sessions
-
Flexibility to focus on relationships rather than diagnoses
-
Time to explore long-standing relational themes
There’s no expectation to make quick decisions about relationships — the work is reflective, paced, and collaborative.
