Specialist psychology and therapy clinic

Patterns, Attachment & Trauma.

Sometimes the difficulty isn’t just what is happening now — it’s that the same feelings, relationship dynamics or ways of coping seem to keep coming back.

We help you understand these repeating patterns, where they may have come from and what they once helped you manage. Therapy can then help you join the dots between what happened then and what is happening now, so that old ways of protecting yourself no longer have to run the show.

You might recognise patterns such as:

  • People-pleasing or taking too much responsibility for others

  • Finding it difficult to say no or set boundaries

  • Being highly self-critical or never feeling good enough

  • Repeating difficult relationship dynamics

  • Feeling responsible for keeping everything under control

  • Staying constantly alert to what might go wrong

  • Withdrawing or becoming emotionally numb when things feel too much

  • Understanding your patterns intellectually, but still finding them difficult to change

Gem's CBT sessions are available in person in Glasgow or online across the UK.

How we work with patterns and trauma

Depending on what you need, therapy may draw on Schema Therapy, EMDR, CBT and other integrative approaches. The aim isn’t simply to analyse the past. It is to understand how earlier experiences may still be shaping your emotions, relationships and responses today — and help those patterns begin to change.

You don’t need to know which therapy you need. We’ll help you work that out.

What can change?

What can change?

As you begin to recognise the pattern, you can start responding differently. That might mean setting boundaries without overwhelming guilt, feeling less responsible for everyone else, becoming less self-critical, feeling safer in relationships, or being more able to notice and express what you need.

The aim is not to change who you are, but to give you more choice where old patterns once felt automatic.
